If you work in a combined middle school and high school, you might be looking for ways to reach out to younger students. Here’s an idea: start a school newspaper. If you already have a school newspaper, I'll bet it focuses on the upper grades. You could then start a 7-8 grade paper with the idea of including as many student names as possible. Write about the team scores, the projects done in class, and field trips with pictures for some of the stories. You could interview teachers and students about things they are involved in outside of school. Students love to see their name in print. The school newspaper was an activity that helped me grow as a person.
