Student Teacher Gifts

February 09, 2005

This year we asked our students to each donate one item they thought would be useful to our intern when she began working in her own classroom. We left the ideas to the students so they could indulge their own creativity as to what they thought a teacher should have. The kids were unbelievable: besides the pens, pencils, notepads, and sticky-notes, our intern received a picture frame (for her family picture), desk 'toys', file boxes, rubber stamps and stamp pads, chocolate, highlighters, a sewing kit, a first aid kit, a white board with a planning calendar on it, gift certificates to the local coffee shop, and so much more. Some of the kids wrote 'how to' suggestions so she would do some of the same activities with her new class that our kids enjoyed doing with her. My teaching partner bought a canvas tote to place all the goodies in -- it was overflowing!
