A good way to start off the year is to have students use their textbooks to find the answers to about 20 questions. This can be done individually or in groups. Set a certain time period for them to find the answers and then go over them in class. I have them keep these in their notebooks for future reference. I have learned most students are not aware of how beneficial their books are and usually do not take the time to skim through them. It helps them and the teacher because they are familiar with their textbooks and have fewer questions during the year.
