Calling Out Poor Behavior

November 15, 2012

Found In: discipline

When a student is misbehaving, call his name. If he does not answer, call his name again. Establish eye contact by calling his name. Say nothing just keep looking him in the eye. If the behavior stops, which it often will, calmly ask him to get back to work then say “thank you,” and go on with your lesson. Do not discuss the behavior and under no circumstances ask “Why were you doing that?” Unless you are willing to accept excuses, do not let him think you will accept on by asking him why.
