Create a Better Classroom Library

My classroom library consisted of just a tiny corner with one set of shelves. I improved upon it by sliding in a freestanding book case. I backed it up with another cabinet to reduce the risk of it falling over. I added an area rug from Home Depot but wished I had tried IKEA first. I added lots of pillows, especially ones that were big and bendable, such as a large, green frog.

Audio books can also be a nice addition to a library corner. Audio books offer a great way to practice reading, because you can hold a book that is appropriate for that grade level while just listening to the story as you follow along. I just retired this summer but hauled all my books home in case I decide to become a substitute teacher or to pass on the books to kids in my community through a local agency supporting families in need.
