Dealing with Helicopter Parents

Found in: ParentsParent-Teacher Communication

When working with helicopter parents, start with clear communication of the objectives, maintain your records (do not enter everything a week before report cards are posted), and -- when they volunteer for classroom duties -- set expectations and requirements. If they want to talk "for just a minute" before and after school, set up a meeting and do not allow them any ad hoc meetings. Document all interactions. If they become difficult, bring in your lead to assist in facilitating any meetings.
