Leaving Homework to Chance

Found in: Grading; Homework; Paperwork

To make sure I don’t get swamped with paperwork, I often leave grading to chance. When homework is due, I'll have a student who finished his homework roll two dice. If the total of the two is seven or if the student rolls doubles (about a 50 percent chance), the kids turn in their homework to be graded. Students still get the practice they need, they're engaged because they all want to roll the dice, and I end up grading about half of the work.
