The most important tool in my own back-to-school backpack is Scotch packaging tape. I use it to repair torn picture books and to post charts so they wouldn’t fall off the walls, to name a few. Before I’d put the tape on the back of anything made of paper, I first put a flat piece of tape down before I’d put the looped tape on it. That way I wouldn’t tear the back of the chart, paper, etc. when I took it down from where it was posted. The tape that remained was barely visible.

Thanks for the added comments! I use flat tape under rolled tape, but hadn't thought to use it under the putty. Then, since I use a lot of velcro, I tried putting a piece of tape under the velcro. Now I can easily pull a piece of velcro off of the back of a poster or picture icon without tearing the poster or picture icon!

A piece of flat tape works great under the sticky wall putty, too. That way the paper doesn't come off onto the putty when you remove it, and the putty doesn't make an oily spot on the paper as it hangs.
