One-Rule Classroom

Found In: routines & procedures

When I taught 2nd- and 3rd-grade science lab, I had a single, one-word rule: Respect.

I explained that this meant students needed to be respectful to the teacher, equipment, and each other. I used Aretha Franklin’s rendition of the song “Respect” to introduce this concept.

When a student displayed inappropriate behavior, I brought them back on track by asking them to analyze their actions with the question: Are you being respectful?
