Science Study Group
March 01, 2012
When I taught a 2nd- and 3rd-grade science lab, I formed a study group to help struggling students to prepare for testing and standards of learning. It was not mandatory but I found it to be popular. We met for a short time during their recess period, but they did not miss all of recess. We sat on the floor, I sometimes served snacks, and I planned very interactive tasks. I used hands-on materials and we often acted things out. I also provided white boards which we used for games or to illustrate terms. Using the technique of illustration made a huge difference for many students and they enjoyed it.
