Students Share Pieces of Writing
April 18, 2012
I have found it helpful to have students share bits of their writing very quickly at the end of a writing period. For example, you might ask them to share a favorite word from their writing, a favorite phrase, sentence or group of no more than three sentences, a strong image, an active verb, etc.
My middle-school students responded well to this because they were able to share without reading a whole piece, and students who produced less still participated. I didn’t let them know what I would be asking for until the end of the writing period, so there was a bit of anticipation with it.
