Student-Published Bound Books

Found in: book making; creative writing; end of the year

By the end of the year, students have written several stories and poems that they have not published or completed. The last few weeks of school, I show the students various samples of bound books. Then I encourage students to turn their unpublished stories and poems into published and illustrated bound books. I often suggest that the students make a book of their poetry. Students enjoy rewriting and changing the plots to their stories and poems. They create fabulous books that become keepsakes from this school year. Once students have finished their books (some make one book, some make 4 or 5) we have an author's celebration, where the students introduce and share their books with other students in the class.
