Rep. Bishop Talks with More Than 2,300 at NEA Tele-Town Hall
On Wednesday, October 3, NYSUT and NEA hosted a successful tele-town hall meeting with Representative Tim Bishop (D) from New York's first district. More than 2,300 participants connecedt to the call, all NYSUT/NEA members from the 1st district. Every NYSUT/NEA member in the 1st district was invited to participate.
A range of issues were discussed, from Head Start to ESEA authorization and the problems with NCLB. Participants asked questions about libraries, community colleges, college affordability, and much more. Representative Bishop also remarked on his support for collective bargaining rights.
Steve Allinger, NYSUT director of legislation, led the call, and Ron and June Smith, local NYSUT affiliate leaders, helped with key questions at the start and end of the call. Callers were polled twice during the call on the issue of college affordability and ESEA and shared their ideas for improving New York’s public schools with the Representative.
