E-Presentations: Visual & Performing Arts
Free Interdisciplinary Content on Joy2Learn Web Site
The Joy2Learn Web site features artists in e-presentations and lesson plans aligned with California standards. And it is available to schools free of charge. Each e-presentation features an internationally renowned artist introducing his or her art form, discussing its history, background, and personal insights. Students can navigate through videos including performances, discussions, and quiz games. The topics and artists in the presentations are:
Theater with Hector Elizondo
Piano with Alan Gampel
Dancing with Gregory Hines
Jazz with Wynton Marsalis
Painting with Elizabeth Murray
Sculpture with Richard Serra
Architecture with Frank Gehry
The Joy2Learn e-presentations support curriculum standards in social studies, science, the arts, and English language arts. But they may also be used by general education teachers in elementary or middle schools.
Although Joy2Learn can be a freestanding experience, it may be more meaningful to students when it is used as a complement to arts instruction in school. The site provides tips for teachers for preparing students for using this program.
