Picture Book Month
Picture Book Month celebrates print picture books every day in November with a post from an author or illustrator explaining why he or she thinks picture books are important.
Activities features a Teacher’s Guide ( PDF, 938 KB, 16 pgs.) with suggestions for and specific examples of using picture books in ELA, math, science, and social studies. The Teacher’s Guide highlights Common Core and other Standards.
Links to author and illustrator pages provide resources and activities for teachers and students. For example:
• Denise Fleming offers an Activities Index for nineteen of her picture books. Where Once There Was a Wood, she has a coloring page, three puzzles, and instructions for older students to make embossed ID tree tags with 36 gauge crafting metal.
The activities section also includes printable certificates and bookmarks in color and B&W.
A Videos section features an interview with Chris Raschka the 2012 Caldecott Winner for A Ball for Daisy.
A Promo Kit is provided to promote Picture Book Month in libraries, classrooms, and schools.
