Democracy and Me Lesson Plans  features a collection of seven lessons for social studies students in grades 7-12 to teach the political and electoral process in the United States.

In a six-day lesson, Create A Candidate ( PDF, 78.5 KB, 2 pgs.) has students investigate major policy issues, debate the issues, and create hypothetical political candidates and campaign strategies.

Reading Your Rights ( PDF, 92.9 KB, 2 pgs.) Students examine the Bill of Rights from an 18th century perspective and discuss the role each right plays today. This lesson includes two additional downloads, a foundation document analysis worksheet and amendments analysis worksheet. A PowerPoint presentation is also provided.

Law of the Land Scavenger Hunt ( PDF, 83.3 KB, 4 pgs.) Students identify the major themes of the articles of the Constitution and the basic structure of the government it establishes. A Law of the Land Scavenger Hunt Worksheet is included.

Election 1912 ( PDF, 143 KB, 1 pg.) Students research the 1912 presidential candidates and policy issues and compare them to important issues today. They develop a campaign button to represent a candidate. A worksheet is included.
