Statement from NEA on Michigan State University Shooting

Pringle: We must continue to come together to end the preventable epidemic of gun violence in this country and ensure all of us can be safe in our schools and communities.

WASHINGTON — Another mass shooting, this time at Michigan State University, reportedly leaves three people dead and five others injured.

The following statement can be attributed to NEA President Becky Pringle:

“Schools and campuses should be the safest places in our towns and cities, but today, on the anniversary of one of the worst school shootings (Parkland, Florida) in history, our nation grapples with yet another one at Michigan State University. Sadly, more students will relive the trauma of this horrific attack, whether they ran for cover, heard the shots, or were told about it by other students.

We hold the victims, families, and communities impacted by these horrific murders in our hearts. We grieve for the loss along with the rest of the country. I have said it before and I will say it again: thoughts and prayers simply are not enough to keep students, educators and their families safe. We must continue to come together to end the preventable epidemic of gun violence in this country and ensure all of us can be safe in our schools and communities.”
