From 1994 through 2004, when the federal ban on assault weapons was in place, deaths from mass shootings fell. Since it expired, such deaths have risen steeply, according to research—further proof that assault weapons have no place on the streets of a civilized society.

Most of us want to live in peace—free to take care of our families, contribute to our communities, and build lives we can be proud of. The majority of Americans support the commonsense gun reforms that can help us go about our routines safely—going to school, shopping for groceries, visiting a place of worship, enjoying a concert, and the like. The Assault Weapons Ban (S. 25/H.R. 698) will help provide the security that we all—especially our children—deserve.
