Tell Congress: Stop Deprofessionalizing Educators: Eliminate Arbitrary Student Loan Caps

Educators are highly skilled professionals, but new federal student loan caps threaten to deprofessionalize education

In H.R. 1, Congress placed arbitrary limits on graduate student loans, making it harder for educators to pursue advanced degrees that strengthen their practice and support student success.

While other professions were granted higher loan caps, education was left behind, which sends a troubling message that educators’ professional growth doesn’t matter.

At a time of nationwide educator shortages, these policies create new barriers to the profession, weaken the pipeline of highly trained educators, and ultimately threaten student success.

Congress must eliminate these unfair loan tiers and show educators the respect their profession and sacrifices deserve.
