Earlier this year, Republicans in Congress passed a tax bill along party lines that took money from Medicaid and SNAP to pay for billionaire tax breaks. 

The law, known as H.R. 1, also imposed new, arbitrary caps on federal loans for students pursuing graduate degrees.  

These new caps give the impression that our degrees are less valuable and less professional than other degrees—and could force educators to get private loans, which are not eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
