In this day and age, internet access is critical for students to research papers, complete homework, and reach their full potential.
The E-Rate program is the fifth largest stream of federal funding in the nation's school system, helping students in 96% of school districts connect to the internet.
Now, the program is at risk.
A proposal seeks to eliminate or severely reduce it.
If it goes through, districts will be forced to cover the costs from other programs or shut the internet off completely.
