Don’t Let the Trump Administration Move Department of Education Programs

Shifting programs to other agencies hurts kids and communities, and usurps the power of Congress.

Don’t let the Trump administration move education programs to other agencies

The Trump administration is moving Department of Education offices and their associated programs to six different federal agencies: the Departments of Health and Human Services, Interior, Justice, Labor, State, and Treasury.

The administration claims these moves will produce “less bureaucracy.” In reality, they will sow significant confusion and destabilize public schools across the country.

Congress created the Department of Education, and only Congress can close it entirely. The effort to dismantle the department piece-by-piece is hurting the students who are our nation’s future leaders and workforce, while creating more bureaucracy and new hurdles for those seeking to educate our nation’s youth.
