Session 7
- Using the Power of the Union to Stand for Immigrant Student Rights, Guest Speaker: Ron Gochez - Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 3-4pm PCT/ 4-5pm MT/ 5-6pm CT/ 6-7pm ET
This event in the series is spotlighting the work of UTLA to fight back against the attacks on immigrant rights through community patrol networks on the ground in L.A. Ron Gochez, member leader of UTLA and of Unión del Barrio, will talk about how Unión del Barrio surveys ICE activity to warn the community where they will be staging for the day, and having a community presence where ICE does show up. They've been doing this since 2020, and now after training over 3,000 community members across L.A. Now, they have seen a reduction of the detention of immigrants in their community by 3x as compared to other similar states that had not built out these networks. Join us Nov. 19 at 6pm ET to learn more about this incredible fight back in L.A. And UTLA.
