NEA to donate hundreds of books as part of Read Across America Sweepstakes

The grand prize is a complete set of this year’s Read Across America books for every classroom in the public school of their choice
Published: August 24, 2022

WASHINGTON—As the new school year gets underway, and to celebrate the launch of NEA’s Read Across America calendar, the National Education Association is giving away hundreds of books that celebrate and promote the joys of reading and reflect our students’ rich, diverse world.

Eligible participants in the 2nd annual NEA Read Across America Sweepstakes will have an opportunity to win hundreds of books for the public school of their choice. The grand prize includes a complete set of the 2022-2023 Read Across America calendar picks for every classroom in a school of the winner’s choosing. In addition, up to four winners will receive one set of this year’s books for the public school of their choice.

The following statement can be attributed to NEA President Becky Pringle:

“Readers who feel included, recognized, and a part of the world are engaged readers. The titles and resources featured by NEA’s Read Across America calendar include books that students can see themselves reflected in, as well as books that allow readers to see a world or a character that might be different from them. Winning the 2nd annual Read Across America Sweepstakes not only brings new books into the classrooms, but also opens new worlds and experiences to students. We can’t wait to deliver the Read Across America books to a great public school.

“If we are going to create more lifelong readers, more writers, more thinkers, and more people who understand that the world is far richer than just their experiences alone, we need to provide kids with books that are as diverse and complex as the society in which we live. That’s what Read Across America is all about.”

The Read Across America Sweepstakes are part of NEA’s year-round efforts to connect students with diverse books and the joys of reading. In August, NEA unveiled its latest list of recommended picture books, middle-grade and Young Adult titles, as well as its popular Read Across America digital literacy calendar. This digital literacy tool is the centerpiece of NEA’s Read Across America, focusing year-round attention on importance, value, and fun of reading and sharing diverse books.

All entries must be submitted between August 15th, 2022, at 12 a.m. Eastern Time and September 15th, 2022, at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The drawing for the Grand Prize Winner will take place on September 16, 2022. Participants simply need to complete this online form. Only one entry per person—but the more people who submit from a school, the more likely their school is to win!
