The National Education Association applauds the Biden-Harris administration—the most pro-worker, pro-union administration in modern history—for unveiling the first-ever U.S. Global Labor Strategy. The strategy recognizes the crucial role that workers’ rights play around the world to achieve economic and social equity. It also provides a strong tool to grow the economy— from the middle out and the bottom up—by lifting up workers' rights to form and join unions.

NEA President Becky Pringle released the following statement:

“Across America and the world, most of us want the same thing: thriving communities with good jobs and strong unions to ensure workers have a voice in their workplace. We want strong public schools where all students—no matter their race, place, or background—have the resources and opportunities to grow into their full brilliance. By unveiling the first-ever U.S. Global Labor Strategy, the Biden-Harris Administration recognizes that all workers deserve family-supporting wages, working conditions that accord them respect and dignity, and strong unions that have a seat at the table when policy is being made.

“Across the globe, public education is the foundation of every democracy. Educators teach their students how to be good citizens, prepare their students to be successful, and use their voices to advocate for themselves and their communities. This U.S. Global Labor Strategy helps lift up these efforts and gives everyone tools to strengthen worker rights around the globe.

“This U.S. Global Labor Strategy will help grow the middle class here at home and across the globe, building a stronger economy, and lifting up working families.

“We look forward to working with the Biden-Harris Administration, as well as the global labor movement, including Education International, to implement the new strategy in concrete and meaningful ways.”
