NEA: Educators welcome investment in creating more opportunity for all students

The National Education Association applauds a proposed House Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill.
Published: May 8, 2019

WASHINGTON - The National Education Association issued the following statement in response to the proposed House Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill.

The following can be attributed to NEA President Lily Eskelsen García:

"Educators applaud the investment in public education and the commitment to create more student opportunity that is at the center of this legislation. In particular, we welcome the focus on helping our most vulnerable students by significantly increasing funding to IDEA and Title I, helping to lower class sizes, providing professional development and support to educators, and lowering the cost of higher education for students. This legislation also makes it crystal clear that federal funding should in no way be used to arm educators with guns in our nation’s public schools.

“We want to thank Chairwomen Nita M. Lowey, D-NY, and Rosa DeLauro, D-CT, for their leadership and urge Congress to pass this legislation so that we can fulfill our commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of background or ZIP code.”
