WASHINGTON – July 1, 2021 – President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will address the nearly 8,000 delegates at the National Education Association’s Representative Assembly (RA) on Friday, July 2 at 5:00 PM ET.

Since taking office, President Biden has been a champion for students, he listened to the voices of educators, and prioritized our public schools. President Biden kept his promise to educators and parents by appointing an educator, Dr. Miguel Cardona, as Secretary of Education. The Biden Administration prioritized our students and public schools by providing the leadership and resources needed to safely and justly help students and educators return to the classroom and worksites for in-person learning. President Biden continues advocating for funding to rebuild crumbling schools, ensuring all students have access to broadband and technology at home, expanding access to higher learning for all students, and ensuring that all students - Black and white, Native and newcomer, Hispanic and Asian alike – are given the opportunities to fulfill their full potential.

Led by President Biden, the Biden-Harris administration has stood up for working families, rebuilding the economy to build back better than before the COVID-19 pandemic, while creating good union jobs across the country. President Biden has previously joined NEA’s annual Representative Assembly in 2007, 2012, 2019, and 2020.

First Lady Jill Biden is an educator, long-time NEA member, and First Lady of the United States.

The RA is the top decision-making body for the nearly 3 million-member NEA, and sets Association policy for the coming year.
