National Higher Education Pledge

Sign our pledge below it's time we fully invest in higher education!

Key Takeaways

  1. Students should have the opportunity to access a wide range of academic programs that support their interests, fuel their curiosity and passions, and lead them to the careers of their dreams.
  2. Students should have access to academic and other support services, like mental health counseling, academic and career advising, and tutoring.
  3. Faculty and staff members should be supported, too. This means paying them a fair, professional salary, providing health and retirement benefits, and enabling faculty participation in shared governance.

We pledge to demand a full investment in higher education, while rejecting austerity measures that undermine student success.

We believe every student—regardless of their race, where they live, or how much money their parents make—should get the higher education they need and deserve, without bankrupting their families and taking on a lifetime of student debt. To make this happen, lawmakers and administrators must prioritize the needs of students and their educators.

Our work as higher education faculty, staff and graduate assistants is fundamental to the well-being of this nation. As NEA members, we embrace the mission of our national union: “to prepare every student to succeed in a diverse and interdependent world” and we stand in the gaps that inequitable systems have created and fostered.

We teach our students to participate in democracy, to succeed in our nation's workplaces, to have ideas, and to innovate solutions.
