Year-Round Organizing Cards

Year-Round Organizing at NEA

NEA's Year-Round Organizing Framework centers around key field strategies that naturally flow through each of the four seasonal components of a typical school year.

Each campaign builds on the momentum of each other, helping members and staff work together to grow our union and create the change our public schools need.

Meet the Cards

The Year-Round Organizing card is an important tool for gathering the contact information of educators who are interested in learning about or getting more involved in the union. When educators fill out the card, they will receive opportunities that:

  • Support educators to grow in their professional practice.
  • Help elect pro-public education candidates from both parties.
  • Get the word out about ways to work together to improve working conditions.
  • Work to increase education funding at your school, district and state.

The data from this form is then shared with organizers to ensure they are followed up with!

Every state has their own Year-Round Organizing card. Text CONNECT to 48744 to be connect directly with your state.

Research-Backed Recruitment Tools

1:1s

Share the URL to the relevant card as a follow up to your one-on-one conversations. This can be done through text or email and is a great next step of engagement to get educators into our communications universe.

Sample text: “Hey NAME! It was great talking with you today. If you’re interested in learning more about AFFILIATE and what we do, you can fill out this quick form: [LINK]

Virtual Events

For virtual events, the focus should be getting the Year-Round Digital Card to attendees through several touchpoints. Put it on slides in presentation decks, share multiple times in the chat, and include it in follow-up emails and messaging.

Sample chat: “Glad to see people are excited about AFFILIATE! Sign up here to get more information: [LINK]”

3
In-Person Events

We still recommend using the digital cards during in-person events. It supports a consistency of data entry and is faster to process than paper cards.

Include the link on printouts, write it on the classroom board, or consider having laptops/tablets available with the links already pulled up so that people can fill them out at the event. You can also have a moment in the program where you ask everyone to get out their phones and sign-up!

Sample conversation: “Thank you for attending our event! If you’d like to sign up or learn more about our work, stop by the laptops in the back and put in your information.”
