NEA Launches New Ad Highlighting What Is At Stake In November

Ahead of the 2020 presidential election, the National Education Association releases a series of new ads showcasing what's at stake.
Published: August 28, 2020

WASHINGTON - August 28, 2020 - Responding to Donald Trump’s speech to the Republican National Convention last night, the National Education Association today launched a new ad designed to highlight what is at stake in November’s election for students, parents, educators, and public schools.

“As parents and educators work together to ensure students have the safest and best possible learning experience this fall while the COVID-19 pandemic continues ravaging communities across our nation, it is clear that Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos have done nothing but fail students, parents, and educators. Unlike Trump and DeVos, who have ignored scientists and doctors while trying to bully students and educators back into unsafe classrooms, Joe Biden is focused on uniting the country and will always put the safety of students, parents and educators first,” said NEA President Lily Eskelsen García. “NEA’s three million members know what is at stake in November, and we will remind voters that Joe Biden is the only candidate we can trust to lead this country.”

“Trusted”

The ad, which is the first in a series NEA will be running as part of our 2020 campaign efforts, is part of an initial significant six-figure ad buy, with ads airing through digital platforms in key battleground states. One in 100 Americans is an NEA member and one in 39 voters comes from an NEA household. Over 250,000 NEA activists have already taken action as educators are going to make a major impact in electing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Transcript:

TRUMP: We have it totally under control.

REPORTER: More than 154,000 deaths.

NARRATOR: DeVos wants to force schools open.

REPORTER: Putting immense pressure on school districts to fully reopen this fall.

NARRATOR: Punishing educators and students by threatening their funding.

DEVOS: If schools aren’t going to reopen, they shouldn’t get the funds.

NARRATOR: Ignoring science and educators.

MCENANY: Uh the science should not stand in the way of this.

NARRATOR: The Trump/DeVos plan fails to keep students and educators safe. Joe Biden will unite the country and put the safety and success of educators and all students first. His approach to reopen schools is grounded in science, informed by educators, and calls for more funding, not cuts. Educators and students can count on Joe to be a partner, because he already is. Stop DeVos. Stop Trump. Vote Biden.
