NEA President Lily Eskelsen García reacts to the U.S. House appropriations subcommittee publicly releasing its new fiscal year budget which includes cuts to Title II programs for professional development, class-size reduction, and after-school programs.

Attorneys general of 18 states and the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos over the delay of implementing student borrower defense regulations. The suit challenges the “Borrower Defense Rule” aimed to make postsecondary institutions accountable for their misconduct and to relieve their students from federal loan indebtedness incurred as a result of that misconduct.

History repeats itself! Delegates to the National Education Association Annual Meeting voted to keep the all-female, all-minority leadership, NEA President Lily Eskelsen García, Vice President Becky Pringle and Secretary Treasurer Princess in office for another three-year term.

The majority of the 7500 delegates to NEA’s Annual Meeting voted to elect Oregon teacher Johanna “Hanna” Vaandering to the NEA Executive Committee. Her three-year term begins in September, 2017.

At NEA’s 2019 Representative Assembly in Houston, TX, a special education teacher in California’s San Bernardino City Unified School District was re-elected to NEA’s Executive Committee.
