Brenda has spent almost two decades writing for NEA, amplifying the voices of educators and crafting content that supports their professional growth. Much of her work centers on creating impactful narratives that provide NEA members with valuable insights into social and racial justice—helping them foster a more equitable and informed community for their students. Brenda blends thorough research with a deep understanding of educational needs to produce content that inspires, informs, and drives meaningful change within public education.
Topics Brenda has covered include immigration, creating inclusive and welcoming schools, and the impact of book bans and whitewashing history. She also writes for NEA's Aspiring Educators, elevating the issues future educators care about most.
In her earlier work at NEA, Brenda was a mainstay of NEA's Read Across America Day celebrations, often going on tour to deliver books and reading resources to students at low-income schools. She remains the only NEA staff person to ever don a Cat in the Hat suit for a photo op in the cockpit of a commercial airplane.
Brenda continues her unfailing commitment to her craft and public education by training educators and fellow staff on how to tell their story to public audiences.
