Building Winning Teams

To ensure student success, it is critical that teachers and paraeducators understand their roles and responsibilities, work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and respect one another in the process.

That’s why we're in the process of developing Building Winning Teams: Effective Paraeducator-Teacher Teams (BWT), a professional learning opportunity focused on creating effective paraeducator-teacher teams. BWT allows for paraeducator and teacher collaboration through eight in-person sessions offered by an NEA state or local affiliate, usually in partnership with a local school or district.

A look closer...

The BWT training package will equip state affiliate staff and local leaders with the materials and tools to facilitate professional learning opportunities for members in their state.

What’s included: A facilitator’s guide, PowerPoint slides and notes, handouts, and more!

Module topics:

  • The components of collaborative teams
  • Establishing a shared vision
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Effective communication
  • Professional relationships
  • Problem solving
  • Conflict resolution
  • Professionalism and ethics.

While the training consists of an eight-session facilitated course, individual sessions can be used as stand-alone professional learning opportunities.
