U.S. House of Representatives
Committee on the Budget
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Representative:
On behalf of our 3 million members and the 50 million students they serve, we urge you to VOTE NO on the fiscal year 2027 budget resolution during tomorrow’s markup, the start of a third round of budget reconciliation during this Congress. Votes on this issue may be included in NEA’s report card for the 119th Congress.
Specifically, we oppose the $10 billion allocated for elements of the so-called SAVE Act—the voter suppression bill aiming to “solve” a problem that does not exist: rampant voting by people who are not U.S. citizens. The actual goal is to reduce turnout among particular groups, including voters of color, younger voters, low-income voters, and voters with disabilities.
Equally troubling, the reconciliation bill fails to reflect the realities that are crushing America’s workforce, straining our public schools, and forcing families to do more with less. A gallon of gasoline costs 50 percent more than it did before the Iran war. Rising fuel and fertilizer costs are ruining farmers, driving up food prices, and making groceries unaffordable.
The House has already voted on the SAVE Act and the Senate has rejected it repeatedly. Holding yet another vote is playing politics, and is unacceptable.
Please VOTE NO on the FY27 budget resolution at tomorrow’s markup.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Johnson Trinca
