Join the Nation’s Largest Celebration of Reading
Readers who feel included, recognized, and a part of the world are engaged readers. The titles and resources featured by NEA’s Read Across America calendar include books that students can see themselves reflected in, as well as books that allow readers to see a world or a character that might be different from them.
Each month, we feature three books—one each for young, middle grade, and young adult readers— plus suggestions for discussions and activities. Winning the 2021 Read Across America Sweepstakes not only brings these books into your classrooms, but also opens new worlds and experiences to your students.

PRIZE DETAILS: One (1) winner will designate one (1) United States public school to receive twelve (12) books per classroom in the school. Each book has a retail value of up to $17.99 per copy. Maximum prize value is $15,000.
ENTRY PERIOD: The Entry Period for the 2021 Read Across America Sweepstakes (“Sweepstakes”) begins on September 23, 2021, at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time and ends on October 7, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
ELIGIBILITY: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER. Sweepstakes is open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who are eighteen (18) years of age or older. Employees of the National Education Association and its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, distributors, promotion and advertising agencies, and members of their immediate families (spouse and parent, children and siblings and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and persons living in the same household, whether or not related, of such employees, are not eligible to enter or win. Void where prohibited by law. Sweepstakes is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws.
HOW TO ENTER: During the Entry Period, visit this page and follow the instructions to complete the entry form provided and submit to receive one entry. Only one (1) entry is allowed per person.
SELECTION OF WINNERS AND ODDS OF WINNING: One (1) potential winner will be selected in a random drawing from among all eligible entries received through the nea.org platform. Drawing will be held on October 8, 2021. Odds of winning depend upon the total number of eligible entries overall that are received for the Sweepstakes. Any attempts to exceed the limit of number of entries into the Sweepstakes by any method, including but not limited to, using multiple email addresses or accounts or robotic entries, are prohibited, and NEA reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to disqualify all suspect entries. An individual may not enter on behalf of another individual or transfer their entry to another person. An individual may be required to show proof of ownership of their accounts used to enter the Sweepstakes. A potential winner will be notified by email, at the email address entered during the entry process, by October 10, 2021. If the potential winner cannot be contacted within three (3) days after the first attempt to contact them, an alternate participant may be selected in their place at random from all eligible entries received. The potential winner is subject to verification by NEA or its designee, including the potential winner’s name, residential address, telephone number, email address and valid photo ID. NEA will not accept screen shots or other evidence of winning in lieu of its validation process. The potential winner may also be required to sign a declaration or affidavit of eligibility and liability release (and, where permitted, a publicity release) concerning the prize. If any potential winner is not verified by NEA, cannot be contacted within three days, fails to return any and all requested documentation within three days from notification (whether or not such potential winner actually receives that notification), is otherwise ineligible, or refuses the prize, then such potential winner forfeits the prize in its entirety.
AWARDING THE PRIZE: The Sweepstakes winner will be asked to confirm the public school they want to receive the prize and the school's contact information. NEA will reach out to the contact, identify which sets of books from the 2021 - 2022 Read Across America calendar will be awarded to each classroom (the winning school will be able to choose which age group set will go to a specific classroom, from elementary, middle grade, and young adult), and pending availability of the book choices, mail the prize directly to the school on or around October 15th, 2021.
WINNERS LIST: The winner’s name and the designated public school will be announced on NEA.org. The name of the winner and designated public school can also be obtained by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to: NEA 2021 Read Across America Sweepstakes Winner, 1201 16th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20036. Requests must be postmarked within ninety (90) days after the end of the Entry Period. The winner list will be sent to requesting parties after selection and verification of a winner.
