Ways to Join the Read Across America Fun
You can help students find reading joy not only on March 2nd, but all year round! Whether you're an educator, parent, librarian, or community member, there are many meaningful ways to support and celebrate reading. Start by connecting with your local school, education association, library, or community center to plan or support events for students of all ages. Use NEA’s suggested titles and activity guides to enrich your plans—and try one or more of the ideas below to bring the joy of reading to life:

Plan or support reading-centered events
- Host a Read Across America Read-In [RW1] and bring students, families, and local leaders together to read aloud, share favorite books, and talk about why reading matters.
- Start a Read Across America Book Club! Focus on reading fun and diverse book choices and offer a social experience for readers that’s gets them talking about books.
- Celebrate story and grow a storytelling community by hosting a Read Across America Storypalooza storytelling event with students, families, and others sharing personal, cultural, or traditional tales.
- Create a Story Concert to combine read-alouds with live music to make stories resonate in new ways.
- Parade for Reading! Encourage students and community members to dress up as their favorite book characters and showcase their creativity and their love for reading.

Get books into the hands of readers
- Develop an action plan to open or revitalize a Little Free Library in your community.
- Facilitate a book swap so students can trade the books they’ve finished reading with others.
- Hold a book drive to get new or gently used books to students or on classroom bookshelves.

Spread the Word
- Share and amplify, using #ReadAcrossAmerica on social media to spotlight community events, book recommendations, student voices, or your “shelfie” with your favorite children’s book and why it brings you reading joy.
